In 2005 Bruno Sammartino was honored by OSIA at the Blue Aster Ball in Philadelphia. He was selected as the Man of the year for this event.
During the presentation for this honor he gave a 30 minute heart rendering speech about how he eventually came to America. The speech was primarily about how his mother Emilia saved him and his brother from a firing line in German occupied Italy during World War II.
Although injured she hid them in the mountains of Abbruzzi during harsh winter months doing whatever was necessary to keep them alive. It was this saga that inspired the development of the Emilia Sammartino Lodge Crabtree Pa. the following year 2006.
The Lodge was initially conceived and brought to fruition by Rezero J. Defabo , Dr.Clement A. Guarlotti and Gregory B. Cerilli.
The Emilia Sammartino Lodge # 2831 was officially chartered March 1, 2006. Our Lodge continues its relationship with Bruno Sammartino a legend in the sports world of Wrestling in Western PA and the nation! A grand champion and true athlete as well as a patron and supporter of the Italian America Customs and Traditions.
